Ecclesiastes 7:16~18, 8:15, 9:9,16 2014-10-24 08:15:02

 

Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise-- why destroy yourself?

너무 지나치게 의롭거나 현명하지 말라- 이 말을 어떻게 해석해야 하나? 남을 정죄하지 말고 많이 안다고 교만하지 말라는 말일까?

 

Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool-- why die before your time?

지나치게 악하지 마라, 바보도 되지 말라는 말은 적당히 악해도 된다는 뜻인가?

너무 약삭빠르지도 말고 멍청하지도 말라는 뜻인가?

 

It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. The man who fears God will avoid all

extremes .

이것도 하고 저것도 놓치지 않는 것이 좋다는 말씀은 극단을 피하라는 말씀이겠지?

 

then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning.

Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.-

이 글은 노자의 아래 명제를 생각나게 한다.

도가도 비상도 명가명 비상명(道可道 非常道 名可名 非常名),知者不言, 言者不知(지자불언, 언자부지)

 

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.

일을 즐기면서 하라는 말씀 - 열심히 하는 사람보다 좋아하는 사람이 잘하고 좋아하는 사람보다 즐기는 사람이 더 잘한다는 말이 여기서 나온 것 같다.

 

Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun-- all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.

아내와 함께 인생을 즐겨라. 주어진 행복을 걷어차고 괜히 심각하게 살지 말라는 말씀. this meaningless life - 이 말씀은 어쩐지 '인생 뭐 있어?' 하는 말로 들린다.

 

So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.

이 앞 구절은 지혜로운 가난한 자가 성을 구한 이야기가 나온다. 하지만 그 후에 그가 가난한 사람이었다는 이유로 남들이 그의 지혜를 무시하고 기억하지 아니한다. 지혜로운데도 평소에 남에게 베풀 능력이 없으면 무시당한다는 말씀인가?
